Coding Errors
In a recent example of coding errors, a patient was charged with Piperacillin 3.75 grams at quantity 9 times a day for 4 days during an inpatient stay. This would be and overdose of 22 grams! The normal dosing is every 6 to 8 hour every 24-hour period, not 9 times a day.
We saved the member $ 832.00
This is just another example of the kinds of errors we frequently see on medical bills. While $832 doesn’t seem like a huge amount in the context of a hospital stay, these errors can add up over the course of a prolonged treatment and across a larger covered population. It can also be significant when that cost is passed on to the patient in terms of deductibles and out of pocket expenses.
